Yes, I’m alive although I’m censored

Standard

After a hiatus of this whole year I’ve decided to get back on the writing track. I think some of you will be happy (ecstatic?) to know that Faylinn’s Chronicles will be released as a fully edited AND COMPLETED novel in late November 2012. Because it’s going to take a whole lotta work to meet this deadline I have decided to not release any further serial pieces.

I have plans to team up with an Awesome Professional Editor (and dear tribe friend), Karla (who doesn’t actually know it yet LOL) to bring you a super high quality story.

On another note, I got a request for my short story Krista, which has been published through Amazon’s Kindle service and found out that I have been CENSORED! My book is no longer available through no deliberate action of my own. I’m not sure if I should be proud of that or not. I believe it IS still available through Scribd but if anyone would like to read it and cannot access it, I can email out read-only copies. They won’t be as pretty as the formatted versions for your e-reader but hey, that’s the price for getting your hands on censored material. (also, any reviews would be appreciated since I have none).

5 year planning

Standard

I’m a pantser. It’s a pretty well known fact.  Because of this pantsing I rarely plan out anything. I don’t outline my stories, I don’t meal plan, I don’t even really budget. I’m working on this as its a hindrance rather than a help. I can see areas in my life that pantsing just isn’t acceptable for. Which is really most all of it.

I was inspired by Kait Nolan’s post regarding changing her 5 year plan and what it now entails. She’s right on the money when she says kids are a hindrance but the sacrifice is worth it. For me at least. She talks about creating a S.M.A.R.T. plan.

My first goal is to finish my AA in Early Childhood Education and start and complete my BA in Early Childhood Education after. This is a huge goal for me personally as I’ve been working on this two year degree since August 2008. I want to step it up. I’m also doing this debt free so having the money to pay for classes is also rolled into this goal.

My long term goal is to either go to seminary school and become a Unitarian Universalist minister to become a youth minister or teacher in a UU school or go to a Waldorf school for training to become a Waldorf teacher. Either of those will probably be after the kids are finished homeschooling but I need to be prepared, I just don’t know which I want to do yet. I also want to use the BA degree in the interim to get my teacher’s license in whatever state we’re in and perform home school evaluations, counseling and tutoring.

My second goal is to finish and publish one of the many books I have currently in progress. I want to have it completely written out by December 2012 with my personal editing done and ready for professional editing, cover art, beta readers etc. I know 5 years for 1 book, right? But I just don’t have the time I would like to put into it. My kids have to come first, homeschooling comes first, my school comes first. When you put it in those parameters, 5 years isn’t all that bad.

I have about a dozen novels in various states of repair. I’d like for one of them to find life as a finished novel. I’m breaking this down into smaller S.M.A.R.T. steps also but for your sanity I won’t post that lengthy bit here. (I also have to figure out which one to stick with…)

My third goal is to increase my current strength by 200% or more. Nope, my goal isn’t to be a size six (wouldn’t that be nice!) or to be XX pounds or whatever. I want to be healthy. I want to be strong. I want to be a lifting badass. I need to go to a gym and get a lifting baseline which won’t happen for at least another 4-5 months. Which means if I can lift 50lbs I want to lift 150lbs, 75lbs= 225lbs and so on. I’m going to do what I can at home in the meantime but I’m also spending this time reading about lifting, strength training and more about the Paleo diet, incorporating more of it into my life each day. The weight will come off but it’s the strength that I’m really looking toward.

There are other goals that I wish I could plan into my 5 year plan, like where we’re going to live, and what we’re going to be doing but honestly, me and life are so unsure about that I don’t even want to attempt it. Three years, five goals, seems do-able.

I’ll be breaking these down further in accordance with S.M.A.R.T. and writing them out long hand in a notebook I’m keeping just for these goals.

Do you have a five year plan? 3 year? 1 year? Do you think long term planning is important or just an activity in fruitlessness?

Searching

Standard

Since starting this blog only a few months ago (really, it’s only been 3 months?) on WordPress I’ve noticed a little widget in the lower corner of my stat’s page. It was interesting seeing how people were finding my blog. And also kinda funny.I was inspired by Amanda McNeil from Opinions of a Wolf posting on her’s last Friday.

I’m actually quite proud of the fact that so many find my blog by actually seraching for it’s name or my name. Though it also seems that there are a lot of people stumbling over here looking for things to do with their hair which is a little odd. And a few people that can’t spell. And one person searching for Avocado Writing Techniques, which *I* will now go look up because I’m intrigued. Anyway, here’s the list of all the ways people have searched and found by blog, either by happy accident or on purpose.

A Writer’s Online Platform Building Campaign

Standard

I just stumbled upon this today and since my last blog post was complaining about not knowing how to drive traffic to the site, I think it’s pretty providencial that this came to my attention!

http://rachaelharrie.blogspot.com/2011/08/third-writers-platform-building.html

You have until the 31st to enter to be a member of this campaign. Hope to see you around!

Author Photo Contest Results!

Standard

The votes are in and here is my lovely graphy.

It's in Avocado.

It’s also ridiculously small because I just figured out how to do it. If you don’t have a magnifying glass at the ready, it says that photo 4 is the winner! For those of you that voted for 2 photos, I only added .5 of a vote for each photo you liked. 4 is still the winner by a lot.

In case you forgot which photo that was, it’s this one:

Winner, winner, chicken dinner

Now you’ll see this everywhere I go. And maybe everywhere you go.

Wednesday Update or lack there of and photos!

Standard

Oh! fellow ROW peeps, I have made zero progress since last Wednesday. I also missed Sunday’s check in. Never finished (so never published) the next Faylinn serial. It’s currently sitting in my drafts file half written. Haven’t really been promoting anything through anywhere and haven’t even really been reading.

I think I am still processing the conference call from Thursday night to be honest. Everything in my life has suddenly ground to a halt.

So, what have I done? Well, I got Author photos taken which was the highlight of the past week sans conference call. Sydney Frost, my mutli-talented friend snapped these of me for a deal that included chicken eggs. She sent them to me last night and now I have to pick one to be THE photo. The face I’ll show to the world on all these social networking sites.

And I can’t pick which one to use. So, here is a fun little contest with the lovely prize of you getting to gloat about being one of the ones to choose which photo I’ll use. I’ve narrowed it down to a measly four.

So there you go, in the comments let me know which you pick and I’ll make a bar graph cause I just love making graphs of things. Highest votes will become my profile picture on this blog, Smashwords, Scribd, Amazon, Goodreads, Twitter and whatever else comes along! You know, no pressure or anything. I’ll take votes until Friday morning so I can spend the weekend updating all these places with the new awsome photo.

I also worked out all of once. For 10 minutes I lifted weights and stretched between sets. I barely made it for the whole ten minutes. Then I joined Jenny Craig. Because I need to take some things off my plate (har, har) and yes, I know the food is sub-par and expensive and nothing I can’t do for myself but I cannot count calories or points or anything like that. I just can’t. I start obsessing. So, I get a box out of the freezer and wah-lah! dinner for me without that pesky thinking business. I’m only doing it for the next 6 weeks while I implement some working out. Until I get to a point that I can free up brain space to think about these types of things. Hopefully, I can loose a few pounds and not be completely overwhelmed starting both a lower calorie *diet* and exercise regime.

And now I am justifying my actions to strangers because I already started getting slack from my friends.

There is my Wednesday check in. Now VOTE! And go RT and tell your friends.
